Cold rain in the North, flood warning in the Central region

Weather highlights for the night of December 1 and December 2, 2023

This afternoon (December 1), cold air has affected most of the Northwest and North Central regions. In the Gulf of Tonkin, there are strong northeast winds of level 6, gusting to level 7.

In the evening and night of December 1, cold air continues to affect other places in the Northwest and North Central regions, then the Central Central region. Northeast winds inland are strong at level 2-3, coastal areas at level 3-4, gusting to level 6.

The North and North Central regions are cold, with some mountainous areas in the North experiencing severe cold. During this cold spell, the lowest temperatures in the North and North Central regions are generally 15-18 degrees Celsius, in the mountainous areas of the North it is generally 12-15 degrees Celsius, and in the high mountains, some places are below 11 degrees Celsius.

From the afternoon of December 1 to the evening of December 3, Quang Tri and from Binh Dinh to Khanh Hoa will have moderate to heavy rain, some places will have very heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 70-150mm, some places will have over 200mm. Thua Thien Hue to Quang Ngai will have heavy to very heavy rain with common rainfall of 100-300mm, some places will have over 350mm. From the night of December 3, heavy rain in the above areas will gradually decrease.

In addition, from the afternoon of December 1 to December 2, Ha Tinh and Quang Binh will have moderate rain, locally heavy rain with common rainfall of 20-40mm, some places over 70mm. The Eastern Central Highlands will have showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall of 10-30mm, some places over 50mm.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from today until December 3, there is a possibility of a flood on rivers from Quang Binh to Khanh Hoa. During this flood, the peak water level of rivers from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai will rise to alert level (BĐ) 1-BĐ2, with some rivers above BĐ2. Rivers from Binh Dinh to Khanh Hoa will rise to BĐ1 and above BĐ1.

There is a high risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas, localized flooding in low-lying areas along rivers and urban areas in provinces from Quang Binh to Khanh Hoa.

North to northwest wind level 2-3, coastal areas level 3-4, gusting to level 6. The North will be cold, the South will be cold. The lowest temperature in the North is 17-20 degrees Celsius, in the South is 20-23 degrees Celsius. The highest temperature is 22-25 degrees Celsius.

Da Nang to Binh Thuan moderate rain, heavy rain, some places very heavy rain and thunderstorms. Ninh Thuan-Binh Thuan night showers and thunderstorms in some places, sunny day. Northeast wind level 2-3. During thunderstorms, beware of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts. Lowest temperature 23-26 degrees Celsius. Highest temperature in the North 27-30 degrees Celsius, in the South 29-32 degrees Celsius.

Central Highlands scattered showers and thunderstorms. East has rain, showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain. Northeast wind level 2-3.
