In her first televised speech on September 25 (US time), US Vice President Kamala Harris presented a plan to boost the middle class and condemned Mr. Trump for his comments on abortion.
US Vice President Kamala Harris speaks at a campaign event in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, US on September 25, 2024.
In an interview on MSNBC, Ms. Harris said Mr. Trump focuses on the wealthy rather than the middle class, and she portrayed herself as someone who can take on and build the economy. Vice President Harris made it clear that she comes from a difficult background and sympathizes with what people are going through.
“Part of the reason I talked about working at McDonald's is because there are a lot of people who work at McDonald's in America who are trying to raise a family. I worked there when I was a student,” Harris said.
Ms. Harris pointed out that the difference between her and Mr. Trump is that he understands and meets the needs of the American people. Meanwhile, Mr. Trump has made many promises but failed to keep them, and when he left office, he left behind the most serious unemployment rate since the Great Depression, according to Ms. Harris.
Trump promises 'German car company will become American car company' if he is elected president
Vice President Harris also affirmed that leading US economists have evaluated the economic plans of the two presidential candidates and they have concluded that her scenario is more effective than Mr. Trump's.
Regarding the issue of abortion, Ms. Harris said that Mr. Trump needs to trust women and give them the right to make their own reproductive decisions. Vice President Harris's comments came after Mr. Trump declared that he would protect women and that American women would not need to think about abortion if he was elected during his campaign in the state of Pennsylvania.
Harris’s interview comes as the vice president has faced criticism for not giving press interviews. Earlier this month, Axios reported that the Harris-Walz ticket has given the fewest interviews of any candidate in modern history.
