Ms. Harris criticized Mr. Trump's policy of letting Ukraine 'surrender'

During Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's visit to the White House on September 26, US Vice President Kamala Harris said there were "some people in my country who would force Ukraine to give up large parts of its sovereign territory, who would demand that Ukraine accept neutrality."

She compared these proposals to those of Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying they were not proposals for peace but for Ukraine to surrender.

In a private Oval Office meeting with Mr Zelenskyy, President Biden pledged that “Russia will not prevail” in the conflict.

"Ukraine will prevail, and we will continue to stand with you every step of the way," Biden said after President Zelenskyy presented his "plan for victory."

Dressed in a distinctive military-style uniform, Mr Zelenskyy replied that "we greatly appreciate the fact that Ukraine and the United States stand together".

Mr Zelenskyy's visit saw a fierce exchange with Republican presidential candidate Trump, highlighting how the US election in November could upset the support Ukraine receives from the United States, its biggest backer.

The outcome of the US presidential election could threaten Washington's current support for Kiev.

Mr Trump had also planned to meet Mr Zelenskyy but their talks appeared to be frozen. On the eve of the Ukrainian president’s visit to the US, Mr Trump accused Mr Zelenskyy of refusing to sign a deal with Moscow, and questioned why the US was handing billions of dollars to Kiev.
