Recently, Mr. VML - the owner of a Facebook account with nearly 150,000 followers shared the story of "being kicked out of a restaurant because he was in a wheelchair" causing a stir on social networks. After 3 days, the post received 48,000 interactions, more than 26,000 comments and thousands of shares.

Besides the sharing and sympathetic opinions, many people also flooded in to "attack" Mr. L's Facebook and Zalo with many bad words.

What did the pho restaurant owner say?

According to the sharing, at noon on January 11, Mr. L. went to a pho restaurant in Hanoi with his girlfriend in a wheelchair. Because the wheelchair was heavy and the restaurant only had steps, his girlfriend went into the restaurant and asked the staff to carry him up the steps. Mr. L. said, the staff came out and said: "Our restaurant does not have staff to carry someone like you," so he and his girlfriend went to another restaurant.

The second pho restaurant where Mr. L. said the owner was very harsh when serving customers in wheelchairs

"We went to a familiar chicken noodle shop and ate as usual. The seats were small, so L. squeezed in a bit closer to the female owner who was sitting selling food. She stood up abruptly and scolded the staff, 'Who let this guy in here to eat?' The staff said, 'He often eats here and normally sits like this.' She got even more excited and said, 'If I can't sell anything, then I'll stand.'" he wrote on his personal page.

Thanh Nien reporters went to the second pho restaurant that Mr. L. mentioned in the article at noon on January 15. After waiting for nearly an hour because of the large number of customers, the pho restaurant owner confirmed that Mr. L. and his girlfriend had come to the restaurant on January 11.

Ms. TTT (73 years old, owner of the pho restaurant) said that this is the restaurant her parents left behind, and currently her four sisters are running it together. At noon on January 11, Ms. T. was preparing to change shifts when a girl pushed Mr. L. in a wheelchair to the restaurant and ordered 2 bowls of pho.

The owner pointed to Mr. L's seat when he arrived at the restaurant.

"I told my child with a wheelchair to sit on the other side for more space and just drink a glass of water. He didn't say anything, and my staff said he could come in. I asked where to sit if he wanted to come in, and they pointed to this place. At that time, I was putting the scale here to weigh the goods, so I said, "It's so cramped, how can I sit here? It's quiet now, so I'm sorry, but in the morning when there are many customers, I can't sell anything sitting like this, I can only take it to a nearby coffee shop to eat," Ms. T. said.

According to Ms. T., she then reminded the staff to push the table back so that Mr. L. and his girlfriend could sit down and eat. "I didn't mean to chase him away. He often ate dinner with my daughter-in-law, and I was still happy. When I left, I told him to clear this away so he could go. I'm old, if I didn't treat the customers well, there wouldn't be so many customers. I worked continuously. After the two of them finished eating, they paid 110,000 VND," the restaurant owner said.

The reporter asked: "So did you say: "Who invited this person to eat here?", the pho restaurant owner confirmed that she did not say "this person" but only said: "Next time, you guys sit on the other side so there's more space."

Why didn't the poster write the name of the restaurant?

Mr. L. said that this was a regular shop for him and his girlfriend. Usually when he came, the young woman was very welcoming and still let them both sit at the front of the shop for convenience, but on the day of the incident, the person selling was an older woman.

Mr. L. said he was ready to check the camera to compare and confirm that what he shared was true.

Mr. L. explained that the owner told him to go to the coffee shop next door to eat, but he and his girlfriend refused because they both had a coffee date later so they didn't want to drink more and just wanted to eat pho.

The poster also shared that he really hopes this will be verified soon. From the beginning, he posted the article and determined not to expose anyone, so he did not record a video as evidence. "Now if I don't list the name of the restaurant, I will be said to have dirty content, but if I publicly name the restaurant when I have no evidence, I will be accused of slander. I guarantee that what I share on social networks is true and will take full legal responsibility for the information I provide," he affirmed.

Responding to the reporter's question about the pho restaurant owner's assertion that she did not use "this language", Mr. L. said that he was willing to compare and check the camera if the restaurant provided it. "The restaurant owner's attitude that day was really harsh," he expressed.

Speaking to Thanh Nien on the afternoon of January 15, an official from the Hanoi Department of Information and Communications said that the unit had been aware of the information circulating on social media for the past few days and was investigating and clarifying the matter. When information is available, the unit will provide it to the press.
