(HNMO) - On June 7, the fourth official competition day at the 12th ASEAN Para Games, the Vietnamese delegation competed in swimming, athletics, chess, etc. In particular, swimmers and athletics athletes competed explosively, bringing home 19 more gold medals in the following events: Swimming (11), athletics (7), chess (1), thereby helping the Vietnamese sports delegation own 60 gold medals, exceeding the target of 55 gold medals set before the Games.
Accordingly, the Vietnamese swimming team contributed 11 gold medals and set 6 new records on June 7.
"Swimmer" Trinh Thi Bich Nhu was the most impressive athlete when she won a "hat-trick" of gold medals. In the women's 50m freestyle S6-SB5 disabled category, Bich Nhu excellently finished first, with a time of 37 seconds 63. Her parameters far surpassed the two Indonesian athletes who finished after her, Siti Alfiah (silver medal), with a time of 41 seconds 76) and Riyanti Riyanti (bronze medal) with a time of 42 seconds 62).
On the same day, Bich Nhu also won 2 gold medals in the 50m butterfly (S6 disability category) with a time of 41.50 seconds; and the 100m breaststroke (SB5 female disability category) with a time of 1 minute 51.77 seconds, simultaneously setting 2 new records of the Games in these categories. Including the gold medal in the previous competition day in the 200m medley for women, SM6 category, Trinh Thi Bich Nhu has won 3 gold medals in this Games.
Besides Bich Nhu, "swimmer" Vi Thi Hang also won 2 gold medals in the women's 50m freestyle S7 and 100m breaststroke SB6, and set 2 new records of the Games in these competitions.
"Swimmer" Le Tien Dat also excellently won a "double" of gold medals when he finished fastest in the men's 50m freestyle S6 category (33 seconds 29) and the men's 100m breaststroke SB5 category (1 minute 33 seconds 69) and set a Games record.
The remaining new record belongs to Pham Thanh Dat, when he achieved the result in the 50m butterfly swimming event for the S8-SB7 disabled category with a result of 30 seconds 25.
In addition, the list of Vietnamese swimming team athletes who put their names on the "Golden Board" of the Games also includes Nguyen Thi Sa Ri (women's 100m breaststroke, SB4 class); Danh Hoa (men's 50m freestyle, S4-SB3 class) and the men's swimming team (including Vo Thanh Tung, Danh Hoa, Do Thanh Hai and Le Tien Dat) in the mixed relay event.
In athletics, Vietnamese athletes contributed 7 more gold medals thanks to the efforts of athletes: Cao Ngoc Hung (men's javelin throw category F57), while his wife Nguyen Thi Hai also won a gold medal in women's discus throw category F57. Vo Van Tung won a double gold medal in men's discus throw category F34 and men's javelin throw category F34-54, while other athletes in throwing, pushing categories... such as Kieu Minh Trung, Truong Bich Van... also dominated their events.
Chess, athlete Tran Ngoc Loan won a gold medal in standard chess (disability category B1 for women), contributing to the Vietnam Sports Delegation for the Disabled.
Thus, as of 9:00 p.m. on June 7, the Vietnamese disabled sports delegation won 60 gold medals, 52 silver medals, and 75 bronze medals, temporarily ranking third.
The Indonesian Paralympic delegation is still leading the overall medal tally with 127 gold medals, 116 silver medals and 69 bronze medals. The Thai delegation is in second place with 96 gold medals, 87 silver medals and 62 bronze medals.
