In his opening remarks at the conference, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stressed that ensuring security is an important factor contributing to the prosperity of the ASEAN region. Therefore, the task for law enforcement agencies is to respond and effectively combat the challenges posed by transnational crimes.

General Listyo Sigit Prabowo particularly emphasized that in the post-Covid-19 pandemic period, the transnational crime situation continues to develop complicatedly, with human trafficking, online fraud, terrorism, drugs and cybercrime emerging.

In this context, ASEAN countries need to strengthen closer cooperation in preventing and combating transnational crimes; ensure the safety of victims and witnesses as well as raise awareness among people and communities about the threats posed by transnational crimes.

This is also one of the priorities of Indonesia's ASEAN Chairmanship Year 2023 and the 17th AMMTC Conference chaired by Indonesia to have an important mechanism to materialize this goal.

Through a video speech welcoming the conference, Indonesian President Joko Widodo emphasized the important role of the cooperation mechanism through the AMMTC Conference and suggested continuing to strengthen cooperation in information exchange, experience sharing and capacity building for law enforcement officers in the coming time.

According to Mr. Joko Widodo, in the context of the rapidly evolving world and regional situation, the fight against and prevention of these types of crimes also needs to adapt more quickly, especially in relation to terrorist crimes, human trafficking crimes and illegal drug trafficking.

Given that with current advances in science and technology, transnational crimes are increasing on a larger scale and in more complex ways, the Indonesian leader affirmed that ASEAN "needs to build sustainable cooperation in information exchange, use of technology, as well as improving the capacity and professionalism of the apparatus".
