The company also said prescription lenses for the Vision Pro will cost $149 and the device will come with 256GB of storage.
The $3,500 wearable is Apple's answer to Meta's Quest, and the company unveiled the hardware at its 2023 Worldwide Developers Conference.
“The era of spatial computing has arrived,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a company press release. The wearable is powered by the M2 chip, an Apple-developed microprocessor that powers its computers.
The Vision Pro is Apple's first new product category since the Apple Watch launched in 2015. However, analysts and experts do not expect the headset to generate significant revenue at first.
UBS estimates Vision Pro's revenue could be around $1.4 billion, a "relatively insignificant" figure compared to total revenue.
Many companies have made efforts to promote the concept of virtual reality over the years, but so far, none have succeeded in popularizing the concept to consumers or business customers.
Vision Pro will run on VisionOS, along with an input system that allows users to use their eyes, hands, and voice to control the device.
Apple says a number of office and creative apps will be compatible with Vision Pro, including Microsoft Office and Salesforce's Slack.
With the new product, Apple aims to change the way consumers experience gaming and video content. Users will be able to watch videos from Apple TV+ and other platforms on a virtual reality display that “feels 100 feet wide.”
