Production of Apple’s new mixed reality glasses is ramping up at full speed at assembly facilities in China, according to SCMP, and has been going on for several weeks with the goal of having the devices ready by the end of January 2024 and launching them for retail sale next month.
Apple also sent an email to software developers on December 20, encouraging them to prepare for Vision Pro by testing their apps with the latest tools and submitting their software to Apple for feedback.
Vision Pro glasses are a landmark product for Apple when entering the virtual reality glasses market. |
Apple's Vision Pro mixed reality glasses cost $3,499 and are set to launch in June 2023, with the device expected to hit the US market as early as early 2024.
This will be Apple’s most complex product launch yet, requiring entirely new sales strategies and equipment. The Vision Pro has custom parts that need to be assembled and packaged at the point of sale. For example, if the product doesn’t fit properly on a user’s head, the device won’t display content properly and can feel heavy to the wearer.
Under the plan, at least two employees will be sent to Apple’s headquarters for sales training at each retail store. These people will then manage the sales of devices in the store and teach their colleagues how to market the products.
At training sessions in Cupertino, Apple retail employees will be taught how Vision Pro works and what features to highlight when talking to potential buyers. They’ll learn how to attach the headband, optional prescription lenses, and light covers to block outside light from interfering with the user experience.
There’s also how to place the device on the user’s head, how to fit the cushion around the face so that the customer feels most comfortable. Apple is also planning a dedicated app that can scan the customer’s head to determine the most suitable strap and light patch.
