The virtual assistant Siri was introduced by Apple with the iPhone 4s in 2011, exciting the company's smartphone community. But since then, the software has been largely abandoned by the company and has fallen behind its competitors, including Google Assistant.
According to the information revealed by technology blogger @yeux1122, at the WWDC 2024 event (expected to take place in June 2024), Apple will introduce a new version of Siri with the ability of generative AI, developed based on the Ajax artificial intelligence model that is being tested internally by "apple". The new Siri is more personalized, possessing the ability to converse naturally like a human.
Siri is the pioneer virtual assistant on the market but is quite outdated.
Users will be able to start a conversation with Siri on an iPhone and continue it on an iPad or Mac without any interruptions as they do now. However, the leak doesn’t say whether Apple will address all the remaining limitations of the “assistant” when it turns 13.
Despite many updates, Siri still cannot give direct answers, but must connect to a data server and respond based on what is available. Apple's virtual assistant also often does not answer users' questions directly, but often suggests websites and suggests references. In addition, poor hearing is also a limitation. Even when Siri hears the question correctly, it still gives the wrong answer.
@yeux1122 is not the first person to reveal Apple's plans to bring AI to Siri. In November 2023, another tech news leaker @Tech_Reve said the same thing, but added that the upgraded Siri version would only work on the iPhone 16 series and later.
