TPO – The literacy class of “green-uniformed teacher” Lo Van Thoai is lit up every night, lighting up the light of knowledge for the people in the mountainous areas of Sop Cop district (Son La).

The literacy class of “green uniform teacher” Lo Van Thoai is a room in the primary school. The class takes place entirely in the evening, from 7pm to 9pm, and is affectionately called by his comrades and the locals as the “popular education” class. “Green uniform teacher” Lo Van Thoai (born in 1981, Laotian) is currently a professional military captain, working at the Mass Mobilization Team, Nam Lanh Border Guard Station, Son La Provincial Border Guard. The students in the class are from the Mong, Thai, Lao ethnic groups... who have never been to school or have lost their knowledge over the years of struggling to make a living. According to Mr. Thoai, in the first few days of class, he encountered many difficulties because the students had not held a pen for a long time, with many different ages, sometimes he had to hold the students' hands to write the letters e, a... especially learning to combine letters and rhymes. Motivating people to attend class is difficult, attending regularly is even more difficult, requiring teachers to constantly motivate and encourage people to overcome their inferiority complex and be enthusiastic about learning through lessons, direct examples and quickly apply them to life and activities. After each class and conversation with the people, Mr. Thoai often incorporates propaganda content on the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws; policies on local economic, cultural and social development; and dissemination of knowledge on law, security and national defense. “I always hope that after completing the course, students will know how to apply skills and methods to develop their family economy; pay more attention and care to their children's education and health; say no to early marriage and incestuous marriage. From there, people will contribute to the locality to build increasingly rich and beautiful villages; join the Border Guard to firmly protect territorial sovereignty and national border security,” Thoai said. With his active contributions to mass mobilization and illiteracy eradication, Captain Lo Van Thoai received many certificates of merit from the Son La Department of Education and Training; and achieved the title of Advanced Soldier of the Son La Provincial Border Guard.
