2023 can be considered a successful year for Hai Phong City sports. The mass physical education and sports movement continues to be promoted and spread in people's lives.

High performance sports reap huge rewards

Hai Phong athletes participated in 135 sports competitions (including 108 domestic competitions, 25 international competitions, 1 SEA Games 32 and 1 ASIAD 19), winning 535 medals of all kinds, including 163 Gold medals, 157 Silver medals and 213 Bronze medals. Notably, at the 19th Asian Games (ASIAD), Hai Phong Sports was honored to have 3 athletes competing in 2 sports events including shooting and rowing, athlete Pham Quang Huy of shooting with excellent achievements of 1 Gold medal in the men's 10m individual air pistol event and 1 Bronze medal in the men's 10m team air pistol event. This is the first Gold medal of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation participating in the 19th ASIAD. Hai Phong also sent 66 coaches and athletes to join the national team and the national youth team.

In 2023, Hai Phong will continue to be a successful destination for major tournaments when hosting national and international tournaments including: Women's beach volleyball tournament at the Vietnam Sea and Island Folk Culture Festival and Do Son - Hai Phong Sea and Island Festival; Northern Golf Championship; 9th National Lion and Dragon Championship; Youth and National Beach Volleyball Championship; National Golf Championship; National Air Gun Championship, National Youth Kickboxing Championship; National Rowing and Canoeing Championship...

In addition, Hai Phong also organized 70 other sports competitions and activities such as physical training and sports activities to celebrate the Party and Spring; Olympic Running Day for the health of all people; Badminton and table tennis tournaments for Vietnam Sports Day; Swimming tournaments for teenagers, children and drowning prevention and accident prevention for children; Volleyball tournament for the elderly; Football championship for clubs; VnExpress marathon Hai Phong; survey flights and paragliding demonstration flights with the theme "Flying to the estuary" ... all very successful.

Ms. Pham Thi To Trang, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Hai Phong, said that in 2023, the Department of Culture and Sports will advise on the issuance of resolutions of the City People's Council such as: Regulations on special nutritional regimes for coaches and athletes during training and competition periods; Regulations on bonus levels for coaches and athletes who achieve achievements at national sports tournaments. Advise on the development of a Resolution of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee on the development of physical education and sports in Hai Phong City until 2030, with a vision to 2045, in accordance with the requirements of physical education and sports development in the new situation.

Make new marks

2024 is considered a pivotal year for Hai Phong 's high-performance sports, with participation in major tournaments such as the National Sports Festival, SEA Games and other international tournaments.

Accordingly, Hai Phong high-performance sports were assigned to participate in 100 domestic and international tournaments and win 370-375 medals of all kinds. In addition, Hai Phong Sports Training and Competition Center also mobilized social resources to participate in more or increase the number of players in a number of domestic and international tournaments.

Sharing about the preparation process for the 2024 competition plan, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Nghia, Director of the Center said: “We focus on testing the physical fitness of all athletes, working with departments to develop competition plans, training, hiring foreign experts to create strength for the City's high-performance sports when participating in domestic and international competitions. Promoting emulation and timely rewards, proposing maintenance and renovation of facilities for training and competition, improving the effectiveness of sports medicine to improve the performance of athletes and coaches".

In the early days of 2024, Hai Phong high-performance sports received good news when shooters Quang Huy and Trinh Thi Vinh won the Gold medal in the 10m mixed air pistol team event at the 2024 Asian Shooting Championship in Indonesia. In addition, Hai Phong high-performance sports were supplemented with talented athletes for the disciplines. This is a valuable resource, helping the city's sports and physical education sector to be proactive in its development strategy and build a sustainable training and competition system.

In 2024, from resources to mechanisms and additional policies, combined with confidence from good achievements in the previous year, will help the port city's high-performance sports proactively build a solid foundation of strength, create breakthroughs in achievements towards higher goals in domestic and international arenas, bringing glory to Hai Phong in the coming time.
