Impressive, unique and rich in cultural identity - those were the main comments from viewers after the artistic performance of the Northwest region at the event celebrating the 78th anniversary of National Day (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2023) in Switzerland.

The event, organized by the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations (UN), the World Trade Organization (WTO) and other international organizations in Geneva (Switzerland), on October 6 featured cultural performances imbued with the identities of ethnic groups in the northwestern highlands of Vietnam, along with a photo exhibition introducing the lives of the people there.

The opening dance performances of the program such as “Goc Cho Phien” by the Mong people and “Canh ban mua xuan” by the Thai people brought to the audience stories about the life in the Northwest, the image of the honest, simple, hard-working people of the highland. The whole audience also had quiet moments when enjoying the dance performances “Nhung co gai Kho Mu”, “Hun May oi” or “Hoa suoi”.

Ambassador Le Thi Tuyet Mai, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam, said: “On the occasion of the National Day, the delegation wishes to introduce to international friends the images of the homeland, the warm hearts of the Vietnamese people, as well as the socio-economic development process of Vietnam. Today, I am also very honored to welcome the delegation from Dien Bien province, who came here with cultural performances imbued with the identity of many ethnic minorities in the Northwest highlands, thereby helping to introduce unique dances, clear images of the lives of our people, as well as the development process of building solidarity among ethnic groups in Vietnam”.

Ambassador Le Thi Tuyet Mai expressed her sincere thanks to the host country Switzerland and other countries, international organizations, and Delegations in Geneva for their valuable support and cooperation to Vietnam over the years. Ambassador Le Thi Tuyet Mai also strongly believes that by promoting multilateralism, international cooperation, and cross-border solidarity, the international community will together build a better world.

At the event, Ms. Huynh Denise Dung, Vice President of the Vietnamese Association in Switzerland, expressed her admiration for the elaborate performance. She shared: “My husband and I have been away from our homeland for decades, but today, watching such special performances, my heart turns to my roots, to my homeland. I am very happy to see that our country is developing rapidly since gaining independence and national reunification.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Chris Young, an employee of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), said: “I was very impressed with the program. The performances were really special in helping me understand more about your country’s culture. I hope to soon be able to arrange my time and work to come to Vietnam and explore your beautiful country.”
