The Football Association of Wales (FAW) has charged Pontypridd United with 18 breaches relating to professional player contracts. They have deducted 141 points from the club, the heaviest penalty in the history of world football.

Pontypridd United will be docked 6 points this season and 135 points in 2023/24. Before the verdict, the team was second to last in the Welsh national championship table.
A FAW statement read: "An investigation by the Football Association of Wales into a breach of professional contract at Pontypridd United FC has been launched following a complaint by players. The investigation has found that Pontypridd United FC has breached FAW rules and regulations.
In total, the FAW has issued 18 charges against Pontypridd United under FAW rules 38.1.1 and 38.1.2. They were found to have owed players wages, failed to comply with contractual obligations to players, failed to register players correctly in accordance with FAW regulations…”.
A six-point penalty this season has pushed Pontypridd United to the bottom of the Welsh table (Photo: Pontypridd United).
This penalty is heavier than Luton Town, AC Milan, Fiorentina or Lazio, teams that have been deducted 30 points for past violations. Or recently, Everton was also deducted 10 points for violating Financial Fair Play regulations in the Premier League.
The punishment leaves Pontypridd United bottom of the Welsh Championship. They are in serious danger of relegation. Next season, the club will start in the Welsh Second Division with a score of -135.
It is likely that the club will appeal and also appeal at a higher level, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
It should be added that Premier League champions Man City are also facing 115 charges related to Financial Fair Play violations. However, this case could last for several years, so Man City is not affected at the moment.
