Publication in tribute to writer Le Luu

Writer Le Luu was born in 1938, in Man Hoa village, Tan Chau commune, Khoai Chau district, Hung Yen province. He is the author of the famous novel "Thoi xa vanh", one of the prominent writers of Vietnam in the 20th century. Writer Le Luu has published more than 40 books, with many famous works. Some of his works have been adapted into film scripts such as "Thoi xa vanh", "Song o day song" ... loved by the audience. He passed away on November 9, 2022. Nearly a year after his death, this publication was released as a tribute to his great contributions to the country's literature.

During his lifetime, Le Luu experienced two pains: loneliness and illness. In the days before his death 12 years ago, he had to "take more medicine than eat" with many diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, gout, lung, pancreas, kidney, prostate... The literary and artistic community considers him a typical example of the courage to overcome personal adversities, turning fate into literature and bleeding into each word.

Director - People's Artist Dao Ba Son believes that the work "Times Far Away" by writer Le Luu changed the literary life of Vietnam in the 1980s of the last century. The ideas and messages of "Times Far Away" are not outdated in any era, "Times Far Away" has been adapted into a movie of the same name, which is a vivid proof of the value of the work.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Minh Thai, Le Luu was the first Vietnamese veteran writer to come to the US to talk about literature with American veterans in 1988. Experts still remember that when the country first opened up, he was also the pioneer in establishing the Center for Entrepreneurial Culture. "It can be said that his life is so interesting that it can be written into a movie script or brought to the stage" - Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Minh Thai expressed her opinion.

Meritorious Artist Le Thien said: "The life of writer Le Luu summarizes the constant striving, from this newly released work, the artistic community can use it as a basis to write a script, to pay tribute to his great contributions."

Poet Nguyen Quang Thieu, Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association, confided: "Writer Le Luu lived a life but inside there were different people: citizen, writer, patient and a famous person. All of them were always aching and troubled by the heartbeat of a heart full of sensitivity to life, so that in nearly 60 years of writing, with more than 40 books, he left Vietnamese literature a huge fortune, contributing to the country's literature many classic works that touched the life of Vietnamese literature."

According to insiders, “Le Luu’s literature is the kind of literature that comes from the heart and soul. He writes as he lives and thinks. That’s why his literature is different. And it is this difference that spreads good humanistic values to life.”
