"The performance of the system was meticulously monitored and validated using various equipment such as radar electro-optical tracking system and telemetry system deployed at the Integrated Test Range Chandipur," the Indian Ministry of Defence said in a statement.
Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh praised the DRDO and the Navy for the achievement, stressing that the test demonstrated the reliability and effectiveness of the VL-SRSAM weapon system. The test was aimed at validating several enhancements to the weapon system, including proximity fuse, seeker and accuracy.
In parallel, DRDO Chairman Samir V Kamat emphasized that this system will significantly enhance the operational capacity of the Indian Navy and act as a core force.
Ahead of the test, about 3,100 residents living within a 2.5 km radius of the launch pad were moved to temporary shelters for safety.
The event comes amid India's recent launch of its second nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, INS Arighaat, a move that will significantly boost its deterrence capabilities.
