On April 23, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) V Narayanan said India plans to launch 100-150 more satellites in the next 3 years to strengthen border and coastal security.
Speaking at an event in Chennai, Tamil Nadu state capital, Mr. Narayanan said that India has about 55 operational satellites.
However, for a country with a large land border and a 7,500 km coastline, this figure still does not meet the requirements for comprehensive surveillance.
Highlighting the need for a more robust satellite network, Mr. Narayanan noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's space reforms have allowed for increased private participation in the development of satellites and launch vehicles./.
