On November 22, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy held the opening ceremony for the 2024-2025 academic year for international students. This school year, there are 100 students from India studying medicine at the school.

Attending this special opening ceremony, in addition to new students and their families from India, was also Mr. Mahesh Chand Giri - Acting Consul General, Consulate of India in Ho Chi Minh City.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Kien - Principal of Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy - said that this year is the third year the school has trained general practitioners for Indian students.
Since 2022, more than 350 Indian students have enrolled in medical school. The main training program is 6 years, the curriculum is taught in English and the internship and clinical practice courses are in accordance with the program framework.
"Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy is a school with a tradition of training human resources for the health sector, aiming towards an international education. Currently, in addition to Indian students studying long-term at the school, there are also many short-term training courses for foreign students from many other countries.
That is why the teaching staff is trying to create an inclusive learning environment where every student has the opportunity to develop comprehensively," shared Professor Nguyen Trung Kien.
Encouraging the new Indian students, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Kien said: "We understand that studying in a foreign country brings unique challenges, and we are committed to supporting you every step of your learning journey.
I hope you will have interesting experiences and a good learning environment during your time studying in Can Tho - a river city. So that when you finish your studies, you can return to your hometown and contribute the knowledge you have learned to the work of taking care of people's health."
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Mahesh Chand Giri - Acting Consul General, Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City - said that the Consulate General of India is committed to continuing to strengthen the partnership between India and Vietnam, especially in the fields of education and health.
Looking forward to expanding collaboration with Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy, including academic exchange programs, joint research projects, and internships to provide medical students with access to both Indian and Vietnamese healthcare systems.
“These initiatives will enrich the educational experience, promote professional development, and support the advancement of the healthcare sector in both countries. We also recognise the importance of strengthening bilateral collaboration in healthcare research, particularly in areas such as public health, infectious diseases and traditional medicine…”, said Mr. Mahesh Chand Giri.
Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy is the only public service unit under the Ministry of Health in the Mekong Delta, carrying out the task of training medical human resources for the region and the whole country.
The school currently has 11 undergraduate majors, 90 graduate majors and majors. The current training scale is more than 16,200 students.
