JAPAN TIMES. The Japanese health ministry confirmed that 115-year-old Tomiko Itooka has become Japan's oldest person; the previous holder of the title was 116-year-old Fusa Tatsumi, who died on December 12.

TEMPO. Indonesia will soon issue regulations on the use of artificial intelligence (AI), Indonesian Communications and Information Minister Budi Arie Setiadi said.

THE STAR. Malaysia has urged the public to continue taking precautions against Covid-19, after recording 13,000 cases in the 49th Epidemiological Week (ME49) from December 3-9, compared to 6,796 cases in ME48.

BANGKOK POST. Thai authorities have seized 50 million methamphetamine pills near the border with Myanmar - a record haul in Thailand and the second largest in Asia.

AP. Myanmar police have seized a large amount of drugs and stimulants worth more than 10.44 billion Kyat (4.97 million USD) in an operation to destroy inter-provincial drug trafficking rings, which has been deployed since early December.

PTI. The government of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has postponed plans to host the Quad Summit in January 2024 because the timing was “not suitable” for the remaining members of the group.

DHAKA TRIBUNE. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) executive board has approved the second disbursement of over $689 million of the $4.7 billion credit package to Bangladesh.

TIMES OF ISRAEL. The Israel Electricity Board approved power sources with a total capacity of up to 2,500 MW, exploited from renewable energy sources, to supplement the national electricity grid.

Europe

YONHAP. ​​South Korea and the Netherlands agreed to establish a close industrial partnership in advanced fields such as semiconductors.

DW. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz pledged to push for long-term financial support for Ukraine at this week's EU summit, which will include discussions on the budget.

America

AP. The United States and Africa completed 547 deals worth $14.2 billion last year, up 67% from 2022, according to British Robinson, coordinator of the U.S. government's Trade and Business Prosperity Initiative.

REUTERS. Venezuela is prioritizing imports of fuel and diluents needed to produce heavy oil after the United States eased sanctions on Venezuela’s oil industry in October.

PRENSA LATINA. Cuba has seized more than 2,290.6 kg of drugs this year and prosecuted 1,226 people, including 13 foreigners.

MERCO PRESS. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) welcomed the new government's measures in Argentina to address the country's persistent fiscal deficit .

EXTRA NEWS TV. Incumbent President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi is leading with more than 90% of the vote, according to preliminary results from Egypt's 2024 presidential election.

AFRICA NEWS. The French military will complete its complete withdrawal from Niger by December 22, which has so far been carried out in a “coordinated and safe manner”.
