VOV.VN - On the night of September 15, at Noi Bai Airport (Hanoi), the Government of India transferred a humanitarian aid shipment worth 1 million USD (nearly 26 billion VND) to the Government of Vietnam. This is an activity within the framework of Operation Sadbhav (tentatively translated: Goodwill), to support communities in some northern provinces of Vietnam affected by Cyclone Yagi.
The 35-ton relief shipment includes essential items such as water purifiers, blankets, mosquito nets, kitchenware sets, water tanks, buckets with taps and solar lamps based on the needs of affected communities and recommendations from authorities. Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Sandeep Arya handed over the relief goods to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam for handover to the Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention and Control of the Ministry and representatives of Tuyen Quang province. On this occasion, the Ambassador mentioned the deep sympathy of the Indian community for those affected by Cyclone Yagi, including the support and contributions of businesses and members of the Indian community in Vietnam at various levels to the affected people and the Vietnamese authorities.

Earlier, on behalf of the Government and people of India, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent condolences and expressed solidarity to Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar also sent condolences to Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son over the loss and damage caused by the storm.

The Government of India has affirmed that the humanitarian assistance to Vietnam is a testament to the strong and longstanding relationship between the two countries, marked by the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Operation Sadbhav (Goodwill) is part of India’s larger effort to contribute to Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief in the ASEAN region, in line with India’s long-standing “Act East Policy”.
