The story behind 1,400 packs of cigarettes makes many people think.

The story begins in a small family living in Beijing (China). According to Ms. Truong, her husband has had a habit of smoking for many years.

After many arguments with her husband about quitting smoking, Ms. Truong gave up trying to persuade him. Instead, she secretly kept all of her husband's cigarette packs for many years.

Ms. Truong's original idea was to keep the condom as "evidence" of her husband's health being affected later.

However, on the 1461st day of collecting cigarette packs, Ms. Truong discovered a more shocking truth.

Ms. Truong shared that after collecting all the packs of cigarettes her husband smoked in 4 consecutive years, she counted a total of more than 1,400 packs, with her husband smoking an average of 19 cigarettes a day.

Looking at each small pack of cigarettes, it seems insignificant, but when added up over four years, the amount of money Ms. Truong's husband spent on cigarettes amounted to 30,000 yuan (equivalent to about 105 million VND).

"The 30,000 yuan could have been used for more meaningful things. If my husband smoked a pack of cigarettes every day, which cost more than 20 yuan (about 70,000 VND), the cost of smoking each year would be 7,500 yuan (about 25 million VND), about 625 yuan (more than 2 million VND) per month. This amount of money is enough to buy a TV in 5 months, a washing machine in 6 months, a refrigerator in a year, a luxury sofa in 3 years, air conditioner and other household appliances in 4 years, and even a mini car in 5-6 years," Ms. Truong shared her shocking discovery.

"It's hard to believe that such small packs of cigarettes cost so much money. Without doing the math, I wouldn't have thought it would cost so much. Before affecting my health, cigarettes also affect my family's finances," said Ms. Truong.

Indeed, if a person starts smoking at the age of 20 and lives to be 80, with a pack costing 20 yuan, that person will spend a whopping 450,000 yuan (about 1.5 billion VND) in 60 years. This amount of money is probably enough to buy a piece of land in the countryside or renovate the current house. And this is only calculated with the assumption that cigarette prices do not increase.

In fact, quitting smoking not only protects your own health but also cares for the health of your loved ones.

Instead of spending money on cigarettes, we can travel, exercise, participate in sports activities, or buy useful home appliances for the family.

In fact, although smoking is a bad habit that erodes the health and finances of many people, quitting smoking is not a simple task. However, we should remember that the best time to quit smoking is right now.
