After days of overeating with high-energy, fatty foods, many people find themselves gaining weight uncontrollably. Doctors recommend that people quickly regain a balance in their diet and exercise to maintain optimal health.
Sharing on her personal page, Ms. Thuy Trang (living in Ho Chi Minh City) humorously said: "In the beginning of spring, the new year, fortune is still waiting in line, waiting with long necks but not seeing any results, but my body weight has "speeded up, recklessly" increased by nearly 5kg. From a chubby girl, I have now become a fat, round girl. Let's all take the opportunity to congratulate me...".
This is also a common situation for many people after Tet holiday, eating and drinking freely with high-energy, greasy foods, sweets such as banh chung, gio cha, cakes, jams, soft drinks, alcohol, beer... The imbalance between eating and exercising makes many people gain weight quickly, fall into a state of lethargy, fatigue, and the body becomes heavy.
Sharing about the above issue, Associate Professor, Doctor, Doctor Lam Vinh Nien, Head of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, said that the weight gain that many people experience after Tet holiday is due to the difference between the energy taken into the body and the energy consumed.
During Tet, the community has many opportunities to meet and socialize. Eating and drinking occur regularly with energy-rich foods. However, physical activities during Tet are often quite sluggish, physical activity is reduced, energy intake is high but energy expenditure is low, which leads to weight gain.
Dr. Nien said that sudden weight gain not only affects the psychology and risks causing depression, but can also cause diseases and seriously affect health. People who gain weight quickly are prone to difficulty breathing, and the respiratory system is affected, which can cause sleep apnea syndrome.
Weight gain puts a lot of pressure on bones, joints and muscles, causing pain and affecting the health of muscles, bones and joints. Sudden weight gain can easily lead to high blood pressure, high blood sugar and the risk of many other dangerous diseases.
To avoid the consequences of weight gain, which affects both physical and mental health, Associate Professor Vinh Nien recommends that the community take advantage of free time to exercise at home. This is a solution to help the body consume excess energy consumed during the day.
According to Associate Professor Vinh Nien, after the Tet holiday, people who have gained weight need to proactively take necessary measures to help their bodies return to a reasonable weight. The two key issues to control weight that each person needs to pay attention to are: first, eating and second, exercising. First, people who want to lose weight need to limit energy-rich foods, including fried foods or foods high in fat.
In meals, it is necessary to control the amount of starch at a lower level than before Tet. It is necessary to increase green vegetables, tubers, and fruits in meals, helping the body balance vitamins, minerals, resistance, and has the effect of helping to lose weight.
Along with diet control, doctors recommend that people who want to lose weight need to increase physical exercise. Maintaining 30 to 45 minutes of moderate exercise every day, exercising continuously at least 5 days a week will help people achieve good health and the most ideal weight.
