Agiribank Gia Vien District Branch: Promoting capital support for farmers affected by storm No. 3

Joining hands with all levels, sectors and localities in overcoming the consequences of storms and floods, the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agiribank) Gia Vien District Branch is promoting reduction of loan interest rates and providing additional capital support for affected farmers.

Director of Agiribank Gia Vien district branch visited and presented gifts to the family of Mr. Tran Van Dung, hamlet 2, Kenh Ga village, Gia Thinh commune, who suffered damage due to floods.

Storm No. 3 has left quite serious consequences for the farm economic model of Mr. Nguyen Van Chien, Vuon Thi village, Gia Hoa commune. Flooding caused by storm rains has caused his family to lose more than 400 million VND.

Mr. Nguyen Van Chien said: My farm raises fish, chickens, and pigs with an area of ​​5 hectares, with an investment capital of over 1.2 billion VND. Due to the impact of storm No. 3, my farm was severely flooded, damaging about half of my family's assets. It is estimated that 7-8 tons of fish were lost by harvest time, and only a few pigs and chickens remained.

Representatives of Agiribank Gia Vien District branch visited and gave gifts to his family, including 10 kg of rice, 500,000 VND in cash, and support to reduce the interest rate on the loan of 600 million VND of the Bank. His family was also facilitated by the Bank to borrow more capital to overcome the damage. Thereby, it encouraged the family to reduce the initial difficulties caused by natural disasters and restore production as soon as the water receded.

The days after storm No. 3 were a sad moment for many livestock farmers in Kenh Ga village, Gia Thinh commune. Mr. Tran Van Dung, hamlet 2, Kenh Ga village sadly shared: When the flood water came quickly after storm No. 3, my family could not keep up with the herd of over 60 goats, so 11 goats died, an estimated loss of about 250 kg of goats for meat, causing a loss of 50 million VND. During the difficult time, my family was visited by leaders and officers of Agiribank Gia Vien district branch, who gave 10 kg of rice, 500 thousand VND in cash and supported a reduction in interest rates for the loan of 500 million VND from the bank, at the same time creating conditions for the family to borrow more capital to quickly restore the herd of goats after the flood receded.

After storm No. 3, many farmers in Gia Vien district suffered damage to their crops and livestock, with aquaculture households suffering quite heavy losses.

Mr. Chu Khac Thanh, hamlet 4, Loi Son village, Gia Phong commune said: Due to flooding after the storm, my family's aquaculture model lost about 2.5 tons of giant freshwater prawns, over 4 tons of fish, and sold 15 pigs... The total loss is over 400 million VND. My family is planning to repair the barn, buy breeding animals, and animal feed. The family will borrow over 1 billion VND from Agiribank Gia Vien district branch to restore production.

Storm No. 3 is a super storm with great destructive power, wide impact, leaving serious consequences on the socio-economy and people's lives in many provinces and cities in the North. For the banking industry, businesses, and people who are customers of credit institutions are heavily affected by the storm, leading to difficulties in debt repayment, not meeting new loan conditions...

Faced with that reality, the State Bank has directed banks to quickly support businesses and people with appropriate policies based on their resources, helping people stabilize their lives after natural disasters and floods.

Mr. Vu Manh Chinh, Director of Agiribank Gia Vien District Branch said: Implementing the direction of the State Bank and Agribank Ninh Binh Province on statistics and quick reporting on the flood situation, Agiribank Gia Vien District Branch has compiled a list of customers affected by storm No. 3 and the recent floods.

Currently, Agiribank Gia Vien district branch has reduced interest rates by 0.5% for all customers affected by floods on all outstanding loans from September 6, 2020 to December 31, 2024 and is ready to provide full capital, reduce 0.5% on outstanding loans for a period of 6 months when customers affected by storms and floods have new loan needs to restore production from September 20, 2024.

The total outstanding debt as of September 6, 2024 of Agiribank Gia Vien District Branch is 1,597 billion VND, with 2,280 customers. The total number of customers affected by storm No. 3 is expected to be 402 customers, with outstanding debt of 130 billion VND; the interest rate reduction is 252 million VND.

Of which, the outstanding debt as of September 6, 2024 is VND 85 billion. The branch reduces the loan interest rate by 0.5% and waives 100% of overdue interest and late payment interest from September 6, 2024 to February 31, 2024 with the interest rate reduction amount of VND 140 million.
