Today (December 10), the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced penalties for those involved in the brawl between Buriram United and Zhejiang FC, in the AFC Champions League. This match took place on November 29, in Huzhou (China).
In this match, Zhejiang FC won 3-2. After the match, players from both sides rushed at each other, causing a brawl. According to the AFC's decision released today, 3 Buriram United players were severely punished.
Members of Buriram United and Zhejiang FC teams fought on November 29.
Specifically, striker Ramil Seydayev (Azerbaijani) was banned for 8 matches. Midfielder Leon James (Thai, born in England) was banned for 6 matches, and center back Chitipat Tanklang was also banned for 6 matches.
The reason why the members of Buriram United were punished so severely was because they were said to be the ones who provoked their opponents first, initiating the fight. Afterwards, some members of the Thai team went on social media to continue demanding revenge on their opponents.
With a ban of 6 and 8 matches, the above players of Buriram United not only cannot participate in the final group stage matches on December 12, but are also almost eliminated from this year's tournament.

After the group stage, the teams will compete in the round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final (each stage consists of 2 home and away matches). Buriram United is unlikely to go that far.
If this season, the Thai team's players have not completed their "suspension" sentence, they will continue to be banned next season.
On the Zhejiang FC side, the team also has 3 players and 2 staff members who are temporarily banned from duty. The "suspended" players on the Zhejiang FC side include midfielder Yao Junsheng, striker Gao Di and foreign player Leo Souza (Brazilian).
However, the suspension for these players is not as severe as the suspension for Buriram United players.
Even Buriram United star Theerathon Bunmathan is said to have been lucky to escape punishment. Many images show that Theerathon Bunmathan was very active in arguing with his opponent.
However, when the fight broke out, the captain of the Thai team at the AFF Cup 2022 was the first to run away.
