According to coach Philippe Troussier's plan, the Vietnamese national team's roster for the 2023 Asian Cup was to be announced this afternoon (January 4th) at a press conference. However, recent actions by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) have dampened the curiosity and excitement of fans and players alike.
The AFC has published the complete list of teams participating in the Asian Cup on its official website. However, this is only a provisional list. Teams have the right to adjust their rosters until the last day before the Asian Championship finals begin.
The list that coach Troussier announced this afternoon may differ from the AFC's announcement, but it is likely there won't be many changes. The only thing to look forward to is the four "wildcard" spots for the trip to Qatar.
Coach Troussier has not yet finalized the official list of the Vietnamese national team.
Coach Philippe Troussier will bring 30 players to Qatar, then depending on the specific situation (such as injuries or tactical considerations), he will drop 4 players. Yesterday and today (January 4th), the French coach dropped a total of 20 players (including both the national team and the U23 team).
In the Vietnamese national team squad recently announced by the AFC, Nguyen Tuan Anh, Do Duy Manh, and Nguyen Hoang Duc are still recovering from injuries. Tuan Anh and Duy Manh may be fit to play in the opening match.
Hoang Duc suffered swelling of the anterior and posterior talofibular ligaments, posterior talofibular ligament, and soft tissue edema in his left ankle. The injury is not serious; Hoang Duc needs two weeks of rest before he can resume normal training. Despite the limited time for preparation, Coach Troussier has decided to patiently wait for the midfielder from The Cong Viettel to recover.
According to the doctors' diagnosis, Nguyen Hoang Duc is fit enough to play from the second group stage match against Indonesia on January 19th.
