By the evening of August 19, most universities, colleges, and academies across the country had announced the admission scores for regular universities in 2024.
In particular, the education sector recorded many benchmark scores, many schools announced benchmark scores near the ceiling.
Pedagogy industry benchmarks fluctuate strongly
At Hanoi National University of Education, the two majors of history pedagogy and literature pedagogy have a benchmark score of 29.3 points, equivalent to candidates having to achieve nearly 9.8 points/subject to be admitted without preferential or regional bonus points.
In addition, 14 other majors in teacher training at Hanoi National University of Education have a benchmark score of over 27 points, and candidates who score 9/subjects are difficult to pass.
Similarly, at the University of Education, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, the admission score for the majors of literature pedagogy, history pedagogy, history-geography pedagogy, group C00 is 28.76 points (an increase of 1.59 points compared to last year), an average of more than 9.58 points/subject for newly admitted candidates. The lowest major is also 24.92 points, equivalent to more than 8.3 points/subject to be admitted.
The standard score for pedagogy is not only close to the ceiling compared to universities in big cities, but also at Hai Duong University, the standard score is sky-high: geography pedagogy 26.85 points, history pedagogy 26.62 points, primary education 26.50 points. Last year, the standard score for 8 pedagogy majors at Hai Duong University was 19 points. Thus, compared to last year, one major increased by 7.85 points.
At Quang Binh University, this year the pedagogical training sector has the highest standard score of 26.61 for primary education. This sector increased by 2.61 points compared to 2023.
Next is the benchmark for the first-year history-geography pedagogy major with 26.5 points. Natural science pedagogy takes 23.24 points, an increase of 4.24 points compared to 2023.
“9 points/failure in favorite subject is normal”
Speaking on the sidelines of the conference to summarize the 2023-2024 school year and deploy tasks for the new school year, Mr. Hoang Minh Son, Deputy Minister of Education and Training, said that the high benchmark score was due to the fact that candidates had many admission wishes and had a lot of information to choose a career.
“High-quality training schools and majors with high demand for human resources are attracting a lot of candidates to apply. Depending on the quota, majors with low quotas but many candidates applying will push the admission score up,” said Mr. Hoang Minh Son about one of the reasons for the high admission score.
Deputy Minister Son said that the high increase in the scores of the pedagogical sector is also a positive sign, showing us the social demand. The enrollment target for pedagogical sector this year is also lower than last year, so the benchmark score has been pushed up.
According to data released by the Ministry of Education and Training, compared to 2023, this year the field with the strongest increase in registration wishes is the field of educational sciences and teacher training, an increase of 200,000 wishes (equivalent to an increase of about 85%).
According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Duc Son, principal of Hanoi National University of Education, in general, the entrance scores to teacher training schools this year have increased, not just Hanoi National University of Education.
Why did the benchmark for the education industry increase? Mr. Son said there were many reasons, one of which was the Ministry of Education and Training's policy for students, especially the policy of supporting tuition and living expenses for education students, which attracted many candidates to register for the exam.
As for Hanoi National University of Education, Mr. Son said that the difference is that last year, about 300 students who won national excellent student awards registered for direct admission to the school, and then 100 candidates confirmed their enrollment.
According to Mr. Son, it is normal for candidates who score 9 points/subject to still fail their favorite choice, because university admissions are considered from high to low, and candidates who do not pass one choice may pass another.
