Publisher Elsevier has just announced a list of the world's most influential scientists. This list was built by a group of scientists from Stanford University (USA), selected based on the Scopus database.
The experts' evaluation is based on complex evaluation indicators rather than simply counting the number of citations, and therefore gives accurate results when updating the database of more than 100,000 most cited scientists (from Scopus data source).
Their rankings are based on important criteria such as: impact index in the scientific community (composite score); total number of citations (excluding self-citations); Hirsch h-index; Schreiber hm-index; number of citations for articles published as a single author; number of citations for articles with the main author (first author and corresponding author), and last author, etc.
According to Elsevier, this list shows which scientists have had the greatest impact in their field. The rankings consider things like how often other scientists refer to their work. If a scientist is on Stanford Elsevier’s list of top scientists in this category in 2024, it means their work is really important and useful to other scientists.
Among Vietnamese scientists working regularly in the country, 9 scientists are ranked in the world's top 10,000 and 60 scientists are ranked in the world's top 100,000 most influential cited scientists in 2024. Compared to 2023, this list has increased by 13 people. The evaluation criteria in the ranking include the impact index in the scientific community, the total number of citations (excluding self-citations), and contributions as the main author or corresponding author.
