In a statement, Taiwan's Defense Ministry said that starting at around 8 a.m. this morning, they detected 19 Chinese fighter jets, including J-10 and J-16 fighters. Of these, eight crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and approached the "contiguous zone."
Separately, Taiwan's Defense Ministry said five Chinese warships carried out what it described as "joint combat readiness patrols."
Taiwan's Defense Ministry also said that Taiwan had dispatched aircraft and ships in response and activated land-based missile systems.
There is currently no information about China's reaction to the above statement by Taiwan's Defense Agency.
Meanwhile, the Chinese military's Eastern Theater Command today released photos on its WeChat account of J-16 fighter jets taking off during a recent "far sea" training mission, according to Reuters.
The Eastern Theater Command said Chinese aircraft conducted "tactical long-range flight training" involving aerial refueling "thousands of kilometers," but did not provide details.

During China's last large-scale military exercise near Taiwan in April, videos of the exercise released by the Eastern Theater Command showed its ships and aircraft coming within 44 kilometers of Taiwan on all sides of the island, according to Reuters.
