Coffee, fried foods, and spicy foods should not be eaten in the morning on an empty stomach because they can easily cause bloating and indigestion.
Dr. Hoang Nam, from the Gastroenterology Department at Tam Anh General Hospital in Hanoi , stated that breakfast provides nutrients after fasting for more than 8 hours, helping to improve health. Eating the wrong foods in the morning negatively affects digestion, causing stomach problems and fatigue throughout the day. Poor digestion is also the cause of several other health issues.
Here are some foods and drinks that should not be consumed in the morning on an empty stomach.
Coffee
Drinking coffee on an empty stomach is a daily habit for many people; however, it's better to drink coffee after breakfast. Drinking coffee on an empty stomach can stimulate the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, leading to indigestion, bloating, and stomach discomfort.
Fried dishes
Greasy and fried foods should not be eaten in the morning, especially in the summer, as they can easily lead to dehydration, increased bloating, and indigestion. The high oil and fat content causes a heavy feeling in the stomach, creating a feeling of fatigue and lethargy throughout the day.
Salad
Salads made from fresh vegetables and fruits should be prioritized for lunch. Eating a salad for breakfast provides too much fiber at once, which can put a strain on an empty stomach, easily leading to bloating and stomach pain.

Fruit
Starting the day with fruit or fruit juice, especially oranges, tangerines, and grapefruits, increases the likelihood of acid reflux, leading to heartburn and stomach discomfort. In some cases, these foods can interact with digestive acids in the stomach, increasing acidity and causing ulcers.
Bananas offer many health benefits, but eating them on an empty stomach early in the day can easily cause discomfort and stomach upset due to their high magnesium and potassium content. Tomatoes are acidic, and eating them directly or in salads, juices, or smoothies can lead to acid reflux.
Spicy seasoning
A breakfast containing spicy ingredients can irritate the stomach lining, leading to indigestion or heartburn on an empty stomach.
Foods high in sugar
Consuming a lot of sugar at the beginning of the day overloads the stomach with fructose. When sugar enters the body's empty stomach, insulin production is hampered, negatively impacting blood sugar maintenance and easily leading to hyperglycemia.
Yogurt
Eating fermented dairy products on an empty stomach renders beneficial bacteria ineffective, easily increasing acidity and causing acid reflux. Yogurt is high in calcium, which can negatively impact teeth and the body if consumed on an empty stomach.
Doctor Hoang Nam advises that in addition to light exercise after waking up, choosing low-calorie, nutrient-rich, and easily digestible foods such as porridge and soup is better for health and the digestive system.
