Focus on developing students' thinking
To prepare for this activity, participating schools have carried out a number of important tasks: Sending managers and teachers to participate in training on PISA assessment; ensuring information technology infrastructure; disseminating and popularizing the meaning, content and requirements of the survey; focusing on developing students' thinking, problem-solving, reading comprehension and scientific skills - core competencies assessed in the PISA exam.
On the students' side, sharing their feelings after participating in the survey, many students said that having direct access to the PISA test helped them practice more skills, especially doing the test on the computer; better understand the types of questions and test structure; acquire more new knowledge and improve their critical thinking skills.
Bac Giang is one of 60 provinces and cities nationwide participating in the PISA survey in 2025 (from April 15 to April 29), with 6 participating schools.

According to Mr. Bach Dang Khoa, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Bac Giang, the locality is aiming for other students to be exposed to the PISA test questions in class, bringing reality into lectures, and using their knowledge to solve practical problems. "This is also a premise and training for students in many skills, suitable for the 2018 GeneralEducation Program and preparing them for the high school graduation exam," said Mr. Khoa.
For the first time, students are assessed on their learning abilities in the digital world.
According to Director of the Department of Quality Management Huynh Van Chuong, Vietnam's goal when participating in PISA is to create honest, reliable, and quality indexes on the results of large-scale assessment of general education. At the same time, it demonstrates Vietnam's efforts in international integration, comparison and learning from the experiences of advanced education systems in the world, thereby constantly improving and enhancing the quality of education in the country.

Director Huynh Van Chuong emphasized that PISA results must be substantial and true to each surveyed locality, from which there will be assessments of national education policies and proposed policy changes. In 2025, participating in PISA assessments using computer-based methods will be a premise for Vietnam to implement computer-based exams and assessments nationwide.
Acknowledging the thoughtful and methodical organization in Bac Giang, Director of the Department of Quality Management Huynh Van Chuong noted that localities, when implementing the PISA survey, need to carry it out seriously and substantially, in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training and the instructions of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
2025 is the first year that Vietnam will conduct the PISA survey on computers in 60/63 provinces and cities, in 195 schools with 7,200 students participating. Along with the assessment of reading, math and science, this is also the first time that Vietnamese students will participate in the assessment of their learning capacity in the digital world.
According to the preliminary assessment of the National Testing Center and Education Quality Assessment, Department of Quality Management, as of April 16, 2025, 36,195 schools successfully organized the official survey. Of which, 30,36 schools achieved a 100% student participation rate; 06 schools had a participation rate of over 95%, ensuring the participation rate as required by OECD.
