According to Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association Vu The Binh, an action plan on reducing plastic waste in the tourism sector will be issued in the near future. This will serve as a basis for members of the association to carry out environmental protection activities in a more systematic and effective manner.

At the workshop "Action plan to reduce plastic waste in the tourism sector" recently held in Hanoi, Vietnam Tourism Association has set a goal that by 2025, 100% of the association's member units will have raised awareness of the harmful effects of plastic waste and the importance of reducing plastic waste.
At the same time, 50% of member resorts and hotels do not use non-degradable plastic bags and disposable plastic products; 100% of member units of the Vietnam Tourism Association issue guidelines and plans to reduce plastic waste or integrate the content of reducing plastic waste into operating regulations.
By 2030, 100% of members of the Vietnam Tourism Association will not use non-biodegradable plastic bags and single-use plastic products.
Sharing about the goal of saying no to plastic waste in the entire industry, Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association Vu The Binh analyzed: “Tourism is considered a sector seriously affected by plastic waste pollution, but is also a significant source of plastic waste. The active participation of the global tourism industry in the goal reduce plastic waste pollution is expected to be one of the important solutions that bring about multifaceted meaningful results for the goal of sustainable development".
In recent years, tourism has been an industry that has made great contributions to the socio-economic development of Vietnam. However, along with this development, tourism activities have also contributed to increasing the amount of waste released into the environment, especially plastic waste.
The Action Plan on Plastic Waste Reduction in the Tourism Industry will be issued to contribute to achieving the goals set out in Decree 08/2022/ND-CP of the Government detailing a number of articles of the Law on Environmental Protection and the National Action Plan on Ocean Plastic Waste Management by 2030.

Accordingly, there are 6 key tasks identified to reduce plastic waste in the tourism sector.
Firstly, promote and raise awareness about reducing plastic waste, including coordinating mass media (television, radio, newspapers, internet, social networks, etc.) to disseminate knowledge about reducing plastic waste to businesses and tourism services.
Second, participate in developing, disseminating and monitoring the implementation of policies and laws on reducing plastic waste in tourism.
Third, build and develop green tourism products without plastic waste; disseminate guidelines on plastic waste reduction to specialized tourism associations, affiliated units, tourism associations of provinces/cities and the tourism business community.
Fourth, promote tourism promotion activities associated with plastic waste reduction with domestic and foreign agencies, ministries and functional sectors.
Fifth, train and foster knowledge on plastic waste reduction for staff of member units in the association.
Finally, mobilize international resources to promote plastic waste reduction.
Assessing the 6 key tasks of the plan, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration Ha Van Sieu said that these are the priorities that must be done immediately, doing one thing but solving many problems. There are groups of tasks that are stimulating and inspiring to do green tourism so that everyone can do it together.
“The National Tourism Administration will continue to work with the Vietnam Tourism Association to bring the project's results to life, accompany the implementation of each component of the plan and call on localities and destinations to implement it effectively,” Mr. Ha Van Sieu added.
