On the evening of June 10, at the National Historical Site of the Headquarters of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam (Cam Lo town, Cam Lo district, Quang Tri province), the 50th anniversary of the inauguration of the Headquarters (June 6, 1973 - June 6, 2023) took place.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai; Head of the Central Mass Mobilization Commission Bui Thi Minh Hoai; leaders of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Committee of Quang Tri province, localities and thousands of people attended the Celebration Ceremony.
50 years ago, right after the Paris Agreement on ending the war and restoring peace in Vietnam was signed, to carry out domestic and foreign requirements and tasks, and prepare for the General Offensive to liberate the South and unify the country, the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam moved its headquarters from Tay Ninh to the liberated zone of Quang Tri.
This is an important milestone in our nation's journey of resistance against America to save the country.
Quang Tri - the steel fortress of the socialist North, the solid rear for the Southern battlefield, where it experienced years of fierce war, "a bag of bombs and a pan of fire", where countless sons from all over the country fell for the independence and freedom of the nation.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai was moved to share that every inch of land, river, ocean, mountain, house, and street corner here is imbued with the feelings and sacrifices of those who “forget themselves for the country and serve the people” so that we will forever cherish and be responsible.
On May 1, 1972, Quang Tri was the first province in the South to be liberated, erasing the border dividing the country, connecting with the revolutionary base areas of TT-Hue, Quang Nam, Da Nang and the liberated area of Lower Laos.
Quang Tri became an important area in terms of politics, military and diplomacy. The Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam established its headquarters in Cam Lo district to continue to lead the revolution in South Vietnam more conveniently.
During the period from 1973 to early 1976, the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam welcomed many international delegations to visit and work, established diplomatic relations, and received ambassadors of other countries to present their credentials.
Many leaders of countries and international organizations were present at the Headquarters, such as General Secretary of the French Communist Party Georges Marchais, and especially President Fidel Castro, the first foreign leader to visit the liberated area of Quang Tri with the famous saying "For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to sacrifice its blood".
Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai said that moving the headquarters of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam to Quang Tri demonstrates the Party's strategic vision, enhances the symbolic value of the will and aspiration for peace and national reunification; at the same time, promotes the role of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam, strengthens its political position in the international arena, and marks the growth of the revolution in South Vietnam.
The Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam has strongly affirmed its political role in the international arena, made very important contributions, and together with our army and people, led the resistance war against the US to complete victory and held a general election to unify the North and South.
