On June 27, the Doping and Sports Medicine Center, General Department of Sports and Physical Training, issued a document announcing the penalties for 5 athletes of the track and field team who tested positive for banned substances at the 31st SEA Games.

Accordingly, athlete Vu Thi Ngoc Ha was stripped of her gold medal in the long jump event and silver medal in the triple jump event at the 31st SEA Games.
Ngoc Ha is also banned from competing for 16 months, from May 16, 2022 to September 16, 2023.
Athlete Khuat Phuong Anh was stripped of her gold medal in the women's 800m and silver medal in the women's 1,500m; and banned from competing for 18 months, from May 16, 2022 to November 16, 2023.
Athlete Quach Thi Lan was stripped of her women's 400m hurdles gold medal and women's 4x400m gold medal; and banned from competing for 18 months, from May 17, 2022 to November 17, 2023.
Athlete Hoang Thi Ngoc was stripped of her 4x400 women's gold medal and banned from competing for 18 months, from May 18, 2022 to November 18, 2023.
Athlete Le Ngoc Phuc was stripped of his silver medal in the men's 400m event and silver medal in the men's 4x400m relay event; and was banned from competing for 16 months, from May 15, 2022 to September 15, 2023.
It is known that the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) proposed a ban of all 5 athletes for a period of 4 years.
However, after Vietnam requested a reduction in sentence, WADA agreed to the penalty as stated above.
The fact that five excellent athletes tested positive for banned substances prevented the Vietnamese athletics team from defending their overall first place at the 32nd SEA Games.
