On November 25, the People's Committee of Van Don district, Quang Ninh province, informed that there had just been an incident in which 5 students of Cai Rong town secondary school were suspected of being poisoned by food, due to eating a strange type of candy printed with foreign words sold near the school.
Specifically, at around 10am on November 25, during recess, students went to the grocery store behind the school to buy candy, and then some students showed signs of suspected poisoning.
After the incident, the school checked and found that a total of 126 students had used this candy. Of these, 5 students showed symptoms of: Numbness of the lips, dizziness, chest tightness, and difficulty breathing; 121 students did not show any abnormal health symptoms. The students were taken to the Medical Center for monitoring and treatment. By around 2:00 p.m., their health had stabilized and they were sent home for health monitoring.
According to initial information from the People's Committee of Van Don district, the type of candy that students bought to eat had foreign words and no Vietnamese sub-labels, and was being sold at a grocery store near the school.
Immediately after the incident, the District People's Committee directed the authorities to collect all goods of unknown origin for investigation and clarification, and at the same time send samples to check the ingredients in the candy.
Currently, the Health Department is coordinating with the District Health Center and related units to continue to monitor, investigate and supervise the above food poisoning case. At the same time, the unit is coordinating with Cai Rong Town Secondary School to advise teachers to inform students that if they have suspicious symptoms, they should immediately go to a medical facility for examination and treatment.
The Food Safety Steering Committee of Cai Rong town strengthens propaganda, inspection, supervision of food poisoning prevention and food poisoning prevention measures in the area.
Authorities recommend that families regularly remind their children not to buy and use candies of unknown origin or cheap prices to avoid similar unfortunate incidents.
