450 athletes compete at the 2024 Quang Tri Province Cycling Race "Peaceful Destination"

This morning, June 30, in Quang Tri town, Quang Tri province coordinated with Thanh Nien Newspaper to organize the opening ceremony of the 2024 Quang Tri Province Cycling Race "Peaceful Destination". Speaking at the opening ceremony, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Tri province, Head of the Organizing Committee of the Cycling Festival for Peace Le Minh Tuan said that the 2024 Quang Tri Provincial Cycling Race "Peaceful Destination" is an activity in the Cycling Festival for Peace within the 2024 Festival for Peace Program. This is also a meaningful activity towards the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification on April 30 (1975 - 2025). The cycling race carries the message "Peaceful Destination" with many expectations. In addition to promoting the sports cycling movement that is increasingly developing in Quang Tri in particular and the whole country in general, this event also honors the value of peace, introduces and promotes the image, culture, land and people of Quang Tri to domestic and international friends.

In order for the tournament to be successfully organized, worthy of its position and significance, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Tri province, Head of the Organizing Committee of the Cycling Festival for Peace Le Minh Tuan requested members of the Organizing Committee, the referees; team leaders, coaches to thoroughly grasp and strictly implement the purpose, requirements, regulations, rules, assigned tasks, uphold responsibility, make every effort, fulfill the task of directing, organizing and operating the race safely, impartially, objectively, accurately and legally. Request athletes to uphold the spirit of solidarity, honesty, nobility, confidence, not giving up, competing and dedicating themselves with the will to be faster, stronger, higher, towards the healthy development of sports in the country.

The tournament attracted 450 male and female athletes from 60 cycling clubs nationwide and 4 provincial cycling clubs: Pakse, Sanavakhet (Laos), Ratanakiri province (Cambodia), Mukdahan province (Thailand); competing in 4 events taking place on the routes around Quang Tri Ancient Citadel (Quang Tri town), in which, the women's event regardless of age competed in a distance of 20km; the men's event competed in a distance of 30km for 3 age groups: under 39 years old; from 39-50 years old; from 51 years old and above.

Before that, the provincial leaders, delegates, the tournament organizing committee and athletes solemnly held a ceremony to pay their respects, offer flowers and incense at the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel Memorial, expressing gratitude and commemorating the heroic martyrs who fell in the 81-day and night campaign to protect the Ancient Citadel. The tournament organizing committee organized a street parade with the theme "Cycling for peace, for a Green - Clean - Beautiful environment".
