Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on the morning of October 10, Mr. Hoang Quang Dat, principal of Lao Cai College, said that 44 students of the school had to be hospitalized with symptoms of fever, abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea and were taken to Hung Thinh General Hospital for monitoring and treatment.
"According to the students, they eat lunch at the school cafeteria, but some students do not eat lunch but still get sick, and some students eat peanuts brought by their friends and still get sick.
Up to this point, the children's health has stabilized, symptoms have decreased, no more stomachache or diarrhea.
Last night, some children were discharged from the hospital, the remaining children are continuing to be monitored at the hospital" - Mr. Dat informed.
Mr. Dat also said that last afternoon and night, the school assigned leaders and staff to manage students to be on duty at the dormitory to maintain a state of readiness with people and vehicles to take the students to the hospital in time (if necessary).
At the same time, assign staff to be on duty at the hospital to coordinate with the hospital and authorities to resolve the issue as quickly and effectively as possible with the goal of ensuring safety for all students.
"This morning, I asked the school's authorities to temporarily suspend the kitchen and coordinate with the authorities to clarify the cause. Only when the authorities have a conclusion and the consequences are resolved will we proceed with the procedures to reopen the kitchen," Mr. Dat added.
Regarding the cause, Mr. Dat said that the health authorities have come to take samples for testing and to assess the cause. The results are not yet available so the cause cannot be determined.
