Over the past 26 years, the high school graduation exam has had many changes in the number of subjects and the format of the exam, in the direction of reducing exam pressure, but the results are reliable and effective.
The high school graduation exam with 4 subjects took place until 1994, in which 2 subjects were compulsory and 2 subjects were optional. Then it was increased to 5 subjects. In the 1998 exam, it was officially 6 subjects.

In the period 2000-2013, the exam was called the high school graduation exam. There were 6 subjects, of which 3 were compulsory: math , literature , foreign language and 3 subjects changed every year, selected by the Ministry of Education and Training from physics , chemistry , biology , history , geography ; announced on March 31.
The exam is hosted by the Department of Education and Training with the purpose of assessing high school graduation, and is mainly held once. The 2024 graduation exam is expected to take place similarly to the 2023 graduation exam. In recent years, the high school graduation exam has been changed to reduce pressure and costs for society.
