On April 4, Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital (HCMC) held a signing ceremony for comprehensive professional support cooperation with end-line hospitals in HCMC.

No more wading through water to rescue patients

Specifically, there are 4 end-line hospitals supporting Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital including: People's Hospital 115 providing comprehensive support, Tu Du Hospital providing comprehensive obstetrics support, Children's Hospital 1 providing pediatric support, and Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology supporting the odonto-stomatology department.

Associate Professor Nguyen Anh Dung - Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health - said that Hoc Mon district has the unique feature of being one of the districts with only one public general hospital, the Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital, no district-level hospital, and no city-level hospital.

This raises an urgent need for a complete, multidisciplinary medical facility with the capacity to take care of local people's health and share the burden with higher-level facilities.

In the past, the medical staff and residents of Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital faced many difficulties due to the hospital's degraded facilities.

“Especially when it rains, when there are high tides, doctors have to wade through water to give emergency aid to patients, but all that is in the past,” Associate Professor Dung said.

Up to now, the hospital has a complete scale, international standard infrastructure, especially at the Northwest gateway.

The hospital will serve the people of Hoc Mon and neighboring areas, neighboring provinces such as Long An , Tay Ninh, and even Cambodian people.

According to the orientation, Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital also develops specialized trauma emergency, chest, abdominal, neurological, orthopedic, and maxillofacial surgery.

At the same time, strengthen basic specialties such as: emergency, resuscitation, internal medicine...

In addition, there is the establishment of a modern stroke treatment center: applying artificial intelligence, shortening the "golden time" for stroke treatment.

From the most difficult hospital to the most modern hospital

Doctor Dang Quoc Quan - director of Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital - said that before the new facility was built, the hospital only received about 1,200 outpatients per day.

However, after the new hospital came into operation, with a modern examination area, this number increased to more than 1,800 patients per day.

With the current capacity of 18 operating rooms, when the machinery system is fully operational, it will meet the needs of medical examination and treatment for people, reducing the load on the final line.

Associate Professor, Dr. Tang Chi Thuong - Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health - said that the city's health sector determined that the functions and tasks of the three gateway hospitals cannot be the same, but must be consistent with existing capacity.

Therefore, the city's leading experts sat together and agreed on the development direction of Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital.

The hospital has been preparing a team with enough capacity to use the most modern equipment to directly treat people. "The hospital currently has 18 operating rooms, which other hospitals in the city can only dream of, so it must be used effectively.

Over time, the hospital will become a true, modern, high-tech regional gateway general hospital, contributing to making the city a regional center for specialized healthcare in the ASEAN region," Associate Professor Thuong said.

The Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health requires that every quarter, Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital and supporting hospitals must report on new support products.

Hospital with helipad

In 2021, the Prime Minister approved the investment policy for the project to build three new hospitals: Hoc Mon, Cu Chi and Thu Duc Regional General Hospitals with a total capital of more than 5,600 billion VND.

The newly built Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital has a scale of 12 floors, 2 basements, a total floor area of 72,293 square meters, invested in a central medical gas system, transporting specimens for the entire hospital and has a helipad to meet the needs of air emergency in the future.
