33 people died and went missing in the first 6 months of the year due to natural disasters

On June 20, the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) said that from the beginning of the year to June 19, the whole country was affected by 1 tropical depression, 16 heavy rains, floods, flash floods, landslides; 120 thunderstorms, lightning, hail; 2 cold spells, 11 strong winds, big waves at sea; 129 earthquakes and 187 landslides and high tides.

The natural disaster caused great damage to people and property. Of these, 33 people died or went missing; 147 houses collapsed, 7,649 houses were damaged; 36,470 hectares of rice, crops and 745 hectares of other crops were flooded and damaged; 41 cattle and 5,325 poultry died.

Regarding aquaculture, 20 boats were sunk or damaged; 17 hectares of aquaculture were damaged; 4.85 km of dykes, embankments, and canals were eroded or damaged; 1.77 km of roads were damaged.

It is estimated that the total damage is about 211.3 billion VND.

Proactively respond to heat

According to a quick report from the Standing Office of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Son La, Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan provinces, from June 17 to 19, heavy rain accompanied by whirlwinds and lightning killed 1 person and injured 1 person (in Son La).

Regarding agriculture, 20.93 hectares of rice and 0.5 hectares of crops were damaged and 7 livestock died in the above 3 provinces.

According to the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, the area from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen on June 20 will have hot weather, some places will be extremely hot with the highest temperature commonly ranging from 35-37 degrees Celsius, some places will be over 37 degrees Celsius. On June 21, it is forecasted to have hot weather and extremely hot weather with the highest temperature commonly ranging from 35-38 degrees Celsius, some places will be over 38 degrees Celsius. On June 21, in the Hoa Binh area, the midlands and the Northern Delta, there will be hot weather with the highest temperature commonly ranging from 35-37 degrees Celsius.

Warning: Heat wave in Hoa Binh, the midlands and the Northern Delta is likely to last until around June 21. In the area from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen, heat wave and severe heat wave are likely to last until around June 23; from June 24, heat wave is likely to gradually decrease. The level of natural disaster risk due to heat wave is at level 1.

In addition, during the day and night of June 20, in the Northern region, there will be showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy to very heavy rain with rainfall of 20-40mm, some places over 80mm. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind. Localized heavy rain can cause flooding in low-lying areas.

The Standing Office of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control recommends that localities closely monitor information on forecasts and warnings of natural disasters and heat waves to proactively deploy response measures.
