3 Vietnamese players dominate gold, silver, bronze medals at world youth chess tournament

Three young Vietnamese chess players won all medals at the 2025 World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship for Juniors and Teens.

In the U14 group of the 2025 World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship for Children and Youth, Vietnam has three participating players: Nguyen Nam Kiet, Dau Khuong Duy and Duong Vu Anh.

The tournament was played in the Swiss format, lasting 11 rounds. However, by the evening of April 15, all three Vietnamese players knew the results before finishing round 11. According to information from the Vietnam Chess Federation, Nguyen Nam Kiet had won the gold medal.

Dau Khuong Duy won the silver medal, while Duong Vu Anh won the bronze medal. On the journey to win the gold medal, Nguyen Nam Kiet excellently defeated his compatriot Dau Khuong Duy in the 6th game.

In 2023, these two players caused a surprise at the U12 World Standard Chess Championship. At that time, the opposite result happened when Dau Khuong Duy won the championship, while Nguyen Nam Kiet finished second.

In addition to these three players, the Vietnamese chess team also won many other titles. Specifically, Nguyen Bao Nam won the silver medal in the U8 men's category; Hoang Tan Vinh won the bronze medal in the U10 men's category; Nguyen Thanh Huong won the silver medal in the G12 women's category; Tran Hoang Bao An won the bronze medal in the G10 women's category and Nguyen Binh Vy won the bronze medal in the G18 women's category.

The 2025 World Junior and Youth Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship kicked off on April 13. More than 430 players, including 64 title holders from 48 countries, are taking part in the event.

The rapid chess event took place over three days, followed by a blitz event over two days. The youngest player was 6-year-old Hangeldi Muradov (elo 1479) from Turkmenistan.
