On September 25, at a conference on public health care and protection organized by the Propaganda Department of Vinh Long Provincial Party Committee, the Department of Health announced the conclusion that 287 workers of BoHsing Company located in Hoa Phu Industrial Park (Long Ho District) were hospitalized in a state of vomiting and nausea due to microbial poisoning in stir-fried pork with beans and carrots.
According to the Vinh Long Department of Health, the August 12 lunch at BoHsing Company had 1,500/1,576 workers participating. After this meal, there were 287 cases of food poisoning. Of these, 221 were hospitalized and all have been discharged, with stable health conditions.
After the incident, the Food Safety and Hygiene Department coordinated with relevant units to investigate the case. The results showed that out of a total of 1,500 meals, there were 1,374 salty meals including white rice, braised pork with duck eggs, stir-fried corn with radish and lean meat, seaweed soup and 126 vegetarian meals including vegetarian stir-fried corn, fried tofu, vegetarian stew, with Vinamilk yogurt dessert and Moc Chau fresh milk.
BoHsing Company uses the preliminary processing area and the dining area at the company (already rented to the NTV business household and has a certificate of food safety qualification) to prepare, process, and distribute meals. Participants in the processing and on-site medical staff are trained in food safety, have records of the origin of raw materials, food, etc.
In addition, the company's grassroots union executive board signed a contract with the HP business household (Phu Quoi commune, Long Ho district) owned by Mr. LQL to provide additional food. Mr. L. used facilities that were granted a food safety certificate to carry out the preliminary processing, processing, and distribution of meals. This facility kept food samples, but did not ensure cross-contamination prevention between unprocessed and processed foods.
The health sector has taken 14 food samples and sent them to the Ho Chi Minh City Institute of Public Health for testing. The results showed that the stir-fried pork with beans and carrots provided by Mr. L.'s business was contaminated with microorganisms such as Bacilluscereus, E.Coli, and Salmonellaspp.
The Vinh Long Department of Health has requested the competent authority to handle the administrative violation of BoHsing Company regarding the processing and supply of food causing food poisoning, affecting the health of 5 people or more with a fine of 160 - 200 million VND. The business household of Mr. L. will be fined from 80 - 100 million VND, the fine for not ensuring cross-contamination prevention will be from 1 - 3 million VND and from 3 - 5 million VND for not implementing or not implementing properly the provisions of law on food sample storage.
Additional fines include suspending all food processing and supply activities of BoHsing Company for 3 months, and Mr. L's business household for 4 months. The above 2 units are required to bear all costs for handling food poisoning, examining and treating the poisoned people.
At the conference, leading experts in the medical field in the Mekong Delta region also contributed many comments and opinions on the importance of food safety and hygiene, the benefits of regular health check-ups and cardiovascular health issues.
