At the invitation of President Vo Van Thuong, President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife Kim Keon Hee paid a state visit to Vietnam from June 22-24.
On the morning of June 23, President Vo Van Thuong and his wife Phan Thi Thanh Tam hosted a welcoming ceremony for President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife Kim Keon Hee with the most solemn ceremonies reserved for heads of state.

To the sound of welcoming music, President Vo Van Thuong and his wife Phan Thi Thanh Tam warmly welcomed President Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife Kim Keon Hee on their State visit to Vietnam. The President invited the President to walk on the red carpet and to the podium.
The military band played the national anthems of both countries. To the background of the national anthems of both countries, 21 thunderous cannon salutes were fired from the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long in the highest welcome ceremony for the Korean head of state to Vietnam.

After the welcoming ceremony, the President and the President of the Republic of Korea will hold talks. Immediately after the talks, President Vo Van Thuong and President Yoon Suk Yeol will witness the signing of cooperation documents and chair a press conference.
Vietnam and South Korea established diplomatic relations in December 1992 and became Strategic Cooperative Partners in October 2009. The two countries upgraded their relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in December 2022.

South Korea is one of Vietnam's leading important partners, ranking first in investment, second in ODA, and third in trade. Total bilateral trade turnover in 2022 reached 87 billion USD, up 11.4% compared to 2021. As of April 2023, South Korea had more than 9,500 valid investment projects, with nearly 82 billion USD in total registered capital.
This is the first state visit to Vietnam by South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Vietnam is also the first Southeast Asian country he has visited since taking office in May 2022.

Previously, in an interview before his visit to Vietnam, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said that in 2022, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the official establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries upgraded their cooperative relationship to the level of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
This year marks a strong start for the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries. With that in mind, the President of the Republic of Korea hopes that this State visit to Vietnam will open a new chapter in the cooperative relationship between the two countries.

Before attending the official welcoming ceremony, the President of the Republic of Korea and his delegation laid a wreath and visited the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. As scheduled, in the afternoon of the same day, President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol will meet with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and attend the Vietnam-Korea Business Forum with the Prime Minister, meet with National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, and attend the official reception.
