During the past two days of the Ho Chi Minh City Open 9-ball Billiards Pool Tournament, fans coming to Ho Xuan Huong Stadium (District 3) were surprised by two unfamiliar faces. They were female referees Nguyen Ngoc Bich (born in 1998) and Phan Thi Diem Quynh (born in 2002). They impressed not only with their beautiful appearance, but also with their talent that was not inferior to their male colleagues. Facing the world's top players, Nguyen Ngoc Bich and Phan Thi Diem Quynh did not show any signs of fear. They always handled the situations calmly, helping the matches to take place fairly and attractively. This caused quite a few surprises for those who watched the matches. It is worth mentioning that both female referees were quite famous before. Nguyen Ngoc Bich is a gymer who has appeared in many newspapers. However, this is the first time they have been widely known as billiards referees. Sharing with Tuoi Tre, Nguyen Ngoc Bich said that she only started playing billiards about a year ago and only got her pool referee certificate 2 months ago. The Ho Chi Minh City Open 9-ball Billiards Pool Tournament is a large-scale, professional tournament, recognized by the World Pool Association (WPA). But for Ngoc Bich, this is only the third tournament in her refereeing career.

"Compared to the previous two tournaments held domestically, this tournament is much larger in scale. Therefore, I feel quite a lot of pressure. In particular, I was assigned to take charge of many matches with strong players, which were broadcast live. Therefore, I often felt worried. But when I entered the task, I still had to ensure my responsibilities. Thanks to that, I gradually became calmer and more focused," Ngoc Bich said. Having a female referee officiate a billiards match between male players also created many disadvantages. But for Ngoc Bich, she believes that the referee's decision is the final decision. Any athlete, no matter how angry or frustrated, must accept that.
