60 outstanding individuals in the construction, protection and development of Ho Chi Minh City over the past 50 years have just been honored. Among them, there are 2 people in the field of education: Professor Tran Van Giau and Professor Dang Luong Mo.

Professor Tran Van Giau (1911-2010) was a revolutionary, history professor, Hero of Labor, former Secretary of the Southern Party Committee, and former Chairman of the Southern Resistance Committee.

He was the leader of the August Revolution in Saigon and decided to open fire on the French on September 23, 1945, the first day of the resistance war against France. He was also the President of the Vietnam Historical Association, the teacher of many generations of historians, from the North to after the reunification of the country. He founded the Tran Van Giau Award and organized the annual awarding of it to authors with research works on history and history of thought in the South as well as the South Central region.

Professor Dang Luong Mo has more than 300 research works and more than 10 inventions and patents. Many of his research works have been published or cited in research books published in the US, especially textbooks used in American universities. With these achievements, Professor Dang Luong Mo has made Vietnamese people famous in the world's science field. He was elected to the New York Academy of Sciences in 1992.

Upon returning to Vietnam, Professor Dang Luong Mo made many contributions in the field of science, such as: Establishing the Microcircuit Simulation and Design Laboratory (abbreviated as FPGA Laboratory) at the University of Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University) in 2000.

He proposed to establish the IC Design Research and Training Center (ICDREC) at Ho Chi Minh City National University in 2005. This center successfully designed the first chip in Vietnam and put Vietnam on the world map of microchips, training thousands of microchip design specialists to supply the domestic and world markets.

He also proposed and built the postgraduate program on microchip design at the University of Natural Sciences (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City). This is the first regular postgraduate program of a Vietnamese university taught in English with the participation of many overseas Vietnamese and foreign professors. The program has trained hundreds of masters in microchip design.
