Two clubs to be promoted to the Premier League have been revealed.

Leeds are set to return to the Premier League.

In round 42, both Leeds and Burnley won and reached 88 points, thus maintaining their positions in the top two teams that qualify for direct promotion to the Premier League next season.

Burnley have been in impressive form, conceding only 13 goals in 42 league matches, including 29 clean sheets. James Trafford, the former Manchester United goalkeeper, has been a key factor in helping the Turf Moor side achieve this feat.

On the night of April 11th, Sheffield, a club with the potential to break into the top two, unexpectedly suffered a defeat against Plymouth. The 1-2 loss to the bottom-placed team left Chris Wilder's side stuck in third place with 83 points, 5 points behind the two leaders, with only 4 rounds remaining in the season.

Speaking after the match, manager Wilder admitted Sheffield had "missed a golden opportunity" and were in danger of having to take a risk in the play-offs.

Not only Sheffield, but also fourth-placed Sunderland lost to the lower-ranked Swansea. This result leaves the "Black Cats" with only 76 points, 12 points behind the direct promotion spot. The Stadium of Light side have virtually no chance of breaking into the top two, due to their extremely low goal difference (+19 compared to +44 for Burnley and +53 for Leeds).

The Championship season for 2024/25 is almost decided, with Leeds and Burnley within reach of direct promotion. They only need to win three of their remaining four matches to return to the Premier League, after two and one season respectively.

The remaining promotion spot will be contested by the teams in 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th place. Sheffield and Sunderland are guaranteed a play-off spot. Meanwhile, the remaining two spots will be contested by Bristol, Coventry, West Brom, Middlesbrough, Millwall, Blackburn, and Watford.

Meanwhile, in the Premier League, the first team to be relegated has been confirmed: Southampton. Leicester and Ipswich are likely to be the next teams to say goodbye to England's top flight. This could be the second consecutive season in which all three clubs promoted to the Premier League are relegated to the Championship after just one year.
