Kien Giang: A 5-year-old boy and his 3-year-old brother were playing in the garden when a beehive fell from a tree due to strong winds. Wasps flew out and stung dozens of times all over their bodies, leading to multiple organ damage.
On October 8, Dr. Nguyen Minh Tien, Deputy Director of the City Children's Hospital, said that when she was transferred from Kien Giang, the 3-year-old girl was lethargic, had cardiovascular collapse, had difficulty breathing, and had yellow skin and eyes. Doctors recorded about 55 bee stings on the child's head, neck, back, arms, and legs. She was intubated to help her breathe and prevent shock.
Tests also showed severe lung damage, severe liver and kidney failure, blood clotting disorders, metabolic acidosis, and hyperkalemia. Doctors had to perform multiple rounds of continuous blood filtration, ECMO intervention, and apply the most advanced resuscitation methods.
"After about half a month of treatment, the baby's condition is still very serious," said Dr. Tien.
The brother suffered 28 burns, severe liver damage, and respiratory failure. Doctors intubated him, put him on a ventilator, administered fluids, provided liver support, and applied many methods to help him gradually improve and be able to get off the ventilator.

Doctors recommend that parents should control and clear beehives around the house and in the garden. Educate children to avoid poking beehives, avoid climbing trees to pick fruit that can accidentally disturb beehives and cause falls. Avoid wearing brightly colored clothes when going on excursions in the countryside or in the forest to limit attracting bees.
If stung by a bee, remove the stinger if present by gently picking it out, using tweezers to remove it, avoid squeezing it with your hands as this can spread the venom, wash the stung area with soap and warm water, apply a cold bandage to the bite to relieve pain and reduce swelling. Take the victim to a medical facility if hives, fatigue, cold hands and feet, red urine, little urine, especially if stung by a wasp more than 10 times.
