According to the Organizing Committee, this year's award attracted 1,894 works in various categories, of which 1,774 were eligible. Of the 1,774 works in 11 categories, the Preliminary Council unanimously selected 157 works for the Final Round.
In his opening speech, Mr. Le Quoc Minh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Chairman of the National Press Awards Council, Chairman of the Final Jury - said that the 17th National Press Awards continues to uphold the role of the most noble award for journalistic works, honoring authors and groups of authors with the best works every year.
"This year is the 17th year the award has been held with many new members in both the Preliminary Council and the Final Council. The organization of the award was carried out in a systematic and methodical manner, attracting the active and enthusiastic participation of all levels of the association, press agencies, journalist members and collaborators nationwide," Mr. Le Quoc Minh emphasized.
Mr. Le Quoc Minh also assessed that 2022 is of great significance, creating a foundation for implementing the goals of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and the Resolutions of Party Congresses at all levels. Following the direction and leadership of the Party and State, and the practical situation of the country, press work has achieved many important and outstanding results.
The press has provided a lot of information and propaganda, with in-depth content and diverse forms of expression, about the directions and administration of the National Assembly in legislative work, supervision, and law enforcement; of the Government, the Prime Minister, ministries, branches, and localities in the work of preventing and fighting the Covid-19 pandemic, accelerating the speed of recovery and socio-economic development.
Regarding the works submitted for the award, Mr. Le Quoc Minh assessed that they closely followed major topics from politics, economics, culture, society, national security and defense and aspects of life in 2022.
The press has promptly and vividly reflected major events and important issues of the country with prominent topics such as: Party building and rectification, the fight against corruption and negativity, protecting the Party's ideological foundation, refuting the wrong views of hostile forces and effective foreign propaganda channels. At the same time, it has reflected efforts to restore socio-economic development and build an independent and self-reliant economy in the context of being heavily affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Many works reflect prominent economic issues such as the stock market, real estate market crisis, credit fraud, loopholes in petroleum business management; Hot social issues such as school drug problems, human trafficking to Cambodia, are also exploited by the works. Topics on culture, preserving and promoting national cultural identity; building cultural institutions in the community; protecting cultural values in the new era are also focused on.
Issues of protecting sea and island sovereignty, protecting the environment and responding to climate change; the spirit of national solidarity, typical examples, and noble acts that are convincing and touching to people are also of interest; In particular, many works have also mentioned the digital transformation in various areas of social life.
