Writer Nguyen Huy Thiep was posthumously awarded the State Prize for Literature and Arts for his works: Short story "Retired General" and short story collection "Hua Tat Winds".
Reporting on the work of considering and awarding the Ho Chi Minh Prize and the State Prize for Literature and Arts in 2021, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung - Chairman of the State Council said: The application files for consideration and award are carried out through 3 Council levels: Grassroots Council; State-level specialized Council and State-level Council.
"The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has received 10 petitions and recommendations related to a number of applications for the State Prize in Literature and Arts.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has reviewed the petition in accordance with regulations: checking the work's profile and the author's personal information; requesting the grassroots Council and the State-level specialized Council to report, explain and respond to individuals with petitions and recommendations in accordance with regulations.
All information and recommendations related to works, groups of works and authors with proposed dossiers are checked, reviewed and verified promptly; publicly and transparently, not allowing the situation of leaving the dossier behind after receiving a petition", Mr. Nguyen Van Hung affirmed.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Vo Van Thuong warmly commended and congratulated the great achievements that Vietnamese artists have made in recent years; warmly congratulated the authors and relatives of the authors whose works and groups of works were awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize and the State Prize for Literature and Arts.
On the basis of acknowledging the efforts in innovating the work of considering and awarding the Ho Chi Minh Prize and the State Prize for Literature and Arts to meet the requirements and purposes of this noble award to suit the reality of literature and arts in the new period, the President suggested that in the coming time, the work of considering and awarding must not "miss" truly valuable works, and must not let deserving artists go unhonored.
"Faced with the current challenges and threats to human dignity, our country needs more works of high ideological and artistic value.
These are works that reflect the vivid reality of social life, the stature of the renovation process in all fields, promote a healthy democratic life, reflect the beauty of the Vietnamese soul and the great aspirations of the entire nation," said President Vo Van Thuong.
The President said that we are standing on the threshold of the 50th anniversary of national reunification. Along with reviewing the common achievements of the past 50 years, this is also an opportunity to comprehensively and deeply evaluate 50 years of the country's literature and arts.
The President requested that it is necessary to focus on establishing a democratic environment, respecting the characteristics of artistic creation, further expanding the freedom of creation, and promoting literary and artistic talents. Caring for the lives of artists and writers, so that artists and writers can make a living from their profession, with their talent and dedication.
Pay special attention to and encourage young artists to engage in the vast and vivid reality of social life, to discover the beauty of Vietnamese people; to innovate creative thinking, to seek new artistic techniques to convincingly convey the depth of thought and humanity, suitable for young people, attractive to the public, bringing traditional culture along with the times, spreading love of life and beautiful aspirations.
Agencies need to research and develop effective mechanisms to promote and introduce good and excellent works to domestic and foreign audiences.
Through literature and art, enhance the attractiveness of national cultural identity; selectively absorb and assimilate the quintessence of human culture; contribute to promoting the strength of Vietnamese culture and people; bring the image of Vietnam, the country and its people to the world and at the same time build Vietnam into an attractive destination for international cultural exchange," the President said at the ceremony.
Artist was moved to tears when receiving the noble award
Musician Hong Dang (Phan Hong Dang) was honored with the following works: "Drifting", "Pilgrimage Night to Legend", "Evening Story of a Small House", "Desire", "Send a Song to Tokyo".
He passed away in 2022 before receiving the award. Ms. Le Anh Thuy - musician Hong Dang's wife received the award on her husband's behalf.

Ms. Le Anh Thuy said she was so moved that she was speechless when her husband received the most prestigious award in literature and art. This award is a recognition of the author's contributions and honors his works, which are loved by many people.
According to Ms. Thuy, her husband is not only a composer and teacher but also the author of many music books. Currently, about 10 textbooks are still being used for teaching at the Vietnam National Academy of Music.
"All his life, the musician has always been passionate about composing and contributing to music and art, not composing to submit to nomination boards. For him, the greatest award is public recognition and contribution to the music industry.
Few people know that I was the one who prepared the documents for my husband. When I asked him to sign, he hesitated a lot, I had to encourage him a lot. I only regret that he could not be there when he received the award," Ms. Thuy confided.

People's Artist Nguyen Thuoc was awarded the State Prize for Literature and Arts for the documentary series: "Not Just a Brand", "Cold Land", "Silent Green Grass".
Sharing his feelings when receiving the award, the veteran artist expressed: "The State Prize for Literature and Arts is a noble title for those working in literature and arts in general, for those working in cinema in particular and more specifically those working in documentary cinema like us. It is an honor, a recognition of a lifetime of work with highly appreciated works.
This is a milestone in my career. I am very happy because this award is something I can be proud of with the students I am teaching at the University of Theatre and Cinema. This is also an encouragement for them in their future career path."
The Ho Chi Minh Prize and the State Prize for Literature and Arts are noble awards for exceptionally excellent works of high value in literature, art, and ideological content; they are the recognition and evaluation of the Party, State, and people for artists and intellectuals who have made many contributions to the development of the country's literature and arts.
