116 trillion new bonds issued, banks hold the "throne"

According to the corporate bond market, since the beginning of the year, the bond market has been increasingly active over the months, especially from April 2024 to present. According to statistics on the Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX), the total value of newly issued bonds in the first half of the year reached VND 116,422 billion, with 118 successful issuances.

Banks are the group with the largest issuance ratio, with bonds always having high liquidity in the market. The average interest rate of this group's bonds is around 4-6%, some banks have interest rates close to 8%/year.

Real estate and construction are the second largest industry group, after banking. Although real estate bonds are still relatively gloomy, in the past 2 months, the market has recorded more positive signals when some businesses in this group have started to call for bond capital again.

At the most vibrant time of the market, in the period of 2021-2022, banking and real estate were two industry groups that frequently exchanged positions in terms of issuance ratio, in which real estate repeatedly held the "throne", being the industry group that mobilized the most bond capital in the market.

In the secondary market, the market was more active with the total transaction value of the whole market reaching 491,157 billion VND, with 217 bond codes being bought, sold and traded. The group with the largest transaction proportion was credit institutions and securities companies.

On the other hand, many businesses have recently made moves to negotiate with bondholders to extend bonds and amend buyback plans, which has somewhat relieved the pressure of paying off maturing bonds.

This plan continues to help businesses have more time to focus on handling production and business difficulties and balancing cash flow to repay debts, especially for the real estate group when debt repayment capacity is still low in the context of a slow recovery of the housing market.

In addition, many businesses have also promoted the purchase of bonds before maturity to restructure debt, reduce financial burdens and interest payment pressure.
