In addition, he asked Tuổi Trẻ newspaper to recommend 10 new university students from particularly disadvantaged backgrounds or who are orphans, so that he could receive financial support for their tuition throughout their four years of university.
Mr. Son is currently the director of Nam Long Paper Packaging Manufacturing and Trading Company Limited ( Binh Duong ).
This is the 11th year that Mr. Son and his friends have been involved with the "Supporting Students to School" program, with the amount donated each year depending on each person's financial situation. He said that this year they could have donated more to scholarships, but his group instead allocated 1 billion VND to aid people affected by floods and storms in the North.
Since 2019, Mr. Son's family has sponsored the tuition fees for 50 underprivileged, academically gifted students in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang until they graduate. Each student receives 12 million VND at the beginning of the new academic year to cover their tuition fees.
“Last year, nine students graduated, and this year, ten more are graduating. When they first started school, they were all very poor and struggling; some were orphans and had to fend for themselves. But throughout their studies until graduation, they all had excellent academic records and found good jobs after graduation, which they told me about. While studying, they also participated in the Green Summer volunteer program,” he said.
Another student, in her third year of university, worked part-time, saved up money, and received a scholarship from the school, so she gave up the tuition assistance from "Uncle Son" to other students who were in more difficult circumstances. "I am happy and touched by that," he said.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Nguyen, deputy editor-in-chief of Tuoi Tre newspaper, said he greatly appreciated Mr. Son's kind gesture towards the students.
" Tuoi Tre Newspaper sincerely thanks Mr. Son for his generosity. This year, despite the severe storms and floods, his and his friends' compassion for the flood-affected people, while still contributing to the 'Supporting Students to School' scholarship program, is a truly noble gesture. And he continues to sponsor an additional 10 students."
"We hope to be able to work with him on many community activities, spreading many inspiring stories for the benefit of society," Mr. Nguyen expressed.
We invite you to join us in supporting students to attend school.
